Marc Bertrand: Game 1 proved the Celtics are different this time around
On Wednesday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, Marc “Beetle” Bertrand made it clear that Game 1 against the Pacers proved the Celtics are different this time around.
It’s about the poise…
Marc Bertrand:
Who was the Celtics’ best player last night?
Scott Zolak:
Brown from the get-go. I think it’s brown because of the impact plays at the end, the sequence, the defense to get it to overtime. He came out of the gate ready to go offensively. It’s him and Jrue Holiday neck and neck.
Marc Bertrand:
OK. I would agree. I would totally agree. Now, Jrue Holiday did not have the clutch, ridiculous game-winning plays at the end that Brown did. But man was he great. His performance should not be over-shadowed by Brown.
Tim McKone:
Easily your steadiest player.
Scott Zolak:
His opportunities are so much less than the others, but they’re not forced.
Tim McKone:
It’s not forced. It’s within the game. It’s not going iso and trying to figure it out. It’s a huge difference from Marcus Smart in that role.
Marc Bertrand
The poise. I think that’s what you’re referring to. Always in control, steady, poised, making winning type plays, taking that charge. These little points and momentum shifts that swung the pendulum back in the Celtics’ favor at the time. To me, that was so valuable in that game. That’s why I do think this different group, different guys, proves they’re different at this time of year. That game last night, even with the stupid and idiotic things they did at the end, I don’t know if last year’s team takes advantage of those things. This team does. Then they made them pay in overtime.
Scott Zolak:
You made them pay last night and then cut their throat in overtime. The emotional swings in this game were ridiculous.
