Major lineup change heading into Celtics-Cavaliers Game 4
Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell will miss Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals series against the Boston Celtics.
As the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers head into Game 4 of their Eastern Conference Semifinals series, the Cavs will be shorthanded. Ahead of Monday night’s game, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that All-NBA guard Donovan Mitchell will not play.
Mitchell was added to Cleveland’s injury report on Sunday with a left calf strain. He was listed as questionable up until Woj’s report, but did not take part on Monday morning’s shootaround.
During Game 3 on Saturday, Mitchell didn’t appear to be slowed by any injury. In 43 minutes he scored 33 points on 12-of-22 shooting, including a 7-of-12 mark from deep. He added six rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
Through three games in the first round, Mitchell was averaging 31.7 points per game. Going back to the start of the playoffs he’s averaging 29.6 points per game including a 50-point performance in a first-round loss to the Orland Magic. Mitchell suffered a knee injury late in that series, but hadn’t been listed on the injury report since the start of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
With Mitchell out, look for the Cavs to turn to guard Caris LeVert for a bigger role. LeVert has had a strong series off the bench for Cleveland, averaging 13.3 points in 27.7 minutes per game in the three games so far.
Game 4 tips off Monday night at 7 p.m. ET. Coverage can be heard starting with pregame at 6:30 on the BetMGM 98.5 The Sports Hub Celtics Radio Network.
