Felger: Jim Montgomery deserves credit for timeout in game 1
The Boston Bruins took game 1 over the Florida Panthers 5-1 on Monday Night. After a slow start to the third period, head coach Jim Montgomery called an important timeout to slow things down. On Tuesday’s Felger and Mazz, the guys discussed the timeout called by Montgomery.
Felger: Montgomery on the timeout he took the third period last night. That was a good time out. Full credit for that. And sort of a sign of a guy that all of a sudden overnight, and you can hear that my voice rising because it’s like, my God, two days ago the guy was done. Finished. Out. And now it’s like he’s making all the right moves. It’s great how that happens. Unbelievable. But the time out, I’ll give full marks for it. That was that was well timed. It was getting out in front of it. It worked. 3-1 became 4-1 instead of 3-2 and he deserves credit for it. Swayman was certainly a fan of it. Swayman’s not afraid to lay it on thick.
Mazz: Does he ever? Wow, this guy likes to talk.
Felger: Jeremy Swayman on the timeout. Jimmy you got it.
Audio of Jeremy Swayman postgame: “He knows the game so well. He knows when to have our bench, you know, take a timeout. And he has such a great sense of game management. And I think after that timeout you could tell the momentum shifting and I had no doubt in my mind our guys are going to respond the right way. And seeing the way they did it, that’s just a testament to what kind of group we have and how we could stay in the moment and make sure that the next shift is our best shift”.
Felger: Oh he is, wow.
Mazz: Oh yeah, no no, he’s like, he’s gone some power sports psychology.
Jim Murray: You know what, though? With a goalie, the weirder the better. Typically, the weirder they are, the better they play. Just look at Tim Thomas more than a decade ago. If he wants to be this kind of weirdo and spout this crap off, go nuts, buddy.
