Zolak & Bertrand: Reacting to the Christian Barmore Extension
On Monday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, the crew reacted to the breaking news of Christian Barmore signing a 4-year extension with the Patriots.
Zo: This is my favorite deal of the offseason
Scott Zolak: That’s a big one. Good for this kid. See, this is a guy I thought they could potentially lose. I mean, you look at the guys they paid here, right? They’re all veteran guys and like Bill always like the veteran guy. When they first drafted this kid, you saw the flashes from him but he wasn’t getting reps. You know I mean? He became sort of a spot guy. To me, he’s like Vince Wilfork. You don’t take him off the field for the first three downs. Just get him more reps. And he came on at the end of last year. I do think it’s totally helped. The knee was good. The hips were good. This guy’s an animal. He’s hard to block one on one. He really is. You look at guys in the league, Quinnen Williams, I always talk about him. HYou have to double him. You have to double him every time. He’s like that, when he’s right. And I think he is right, and I think he’s earned it. I think he learned to become a better pro, too. Sort of matured over the course of the last year or 2 or 3. Well-earned for him and man, another guy that they kept here, that’s one thing here, you know, whether people like it or not, and fans kind of don’t like it, but these are good players that have signed back. When a guy’s good and you draft him, you re-sign him. Another guy gets the second deal. That’s pretty good.
Tim McKone: This is my favorite deal of the offseason for the Patriots.
Scott Zolak: It’s kind of mine too.
Tim McKone: You look at this roster. There are some good players on it, I get it. Ultimately, I don’t think there are a lot of like blue chip studs on this roster.
Scott Zolak: They had to do Henry, but he’s not getting as much as last time. Bourne’s contract look a lot looked a lot more until you heard about it. And you always got to figure out what’s the guarantee. $41 million guaranteed. That’s a big number.
Tim McKone: One of the few guys on the roster that if they hit their ceiling, it’s an elite level talent at that position.
