Felger: Why don’t I like David Pastrnak?
David Pastrnak tallied a hat trick in the Boston Bruins 6-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators at the TD Garden. Pastrnak is now 7th on the Bruins all-time goals list and is on pace to become the all-time leader in goals for the Bruins. On Wednesday’s Felger and Mazz, Felger was questioning why he still has his reservations about Pastrnak as a player.
Why does Felger still have his questions about Pastrnak?
Felger: You can already say at the age of 27, he is one of the great goal scorers in Boston Bruins history. He’s one of the elite goal scorers in the National Hockey League. The last three seasons, beginning in 2021 to now, goal leaders in the NHL Auston Matthews one, David Pastrnak two. The last five seasons, if you want to take it back the last five seasons, leaders in goals in the NHL, Auston Matthews one. Leon Draisaitl two with 215. David Pastrnak three with 213. He’s probably going to catch him. In the last two years, the NHL leader in goals from the beginning of last season to now, David Pastrnak one, Auston Matthews two. You have one of the great goal scorers in the National Hockey League currently. You have one of the all time great goal scorers in Boston Bruins history already, and he’s just 27. Why don’t I like him? Why don’t I like him?
Felger: So he’s now at 44 goals for the year. He has now hit the 40 goal mark three straight times. Cam Neely never did that. The last guy to have a 40 goal season three straight years was Rick Middleton. 1984 I think was the third of the three years. So it’s been 40 years since a Bruin has scored like this, that consistently, he’s already surpassed Neely as a goal scorer. I mean, just as a pure goal scorer. I mean of course obviously as a hockey player we would all take Cam Neely. Ten times out of ten. As a goal scorer, Pastrnak is already greater than Cam Neely. And yet I just have this reservation about this player. I just, I’ve not fully bought in to David Pastrnak. I find myself more agitated with him than I am happy with him.
