J.C. Jackson ‘likely’ done for season after latest Patriots roster moves

After not playing on Sunday despite being active, it looks like New England Patriots cornerback J.C. Jackson‘s season is over. On Tuesday the team placed Jackson on the reserve/non-football illness list, with NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport noting that the move “likely ends his season.”
Jackson’s last-second absence on Sunday was due to Jackson dealing with mental health issues, his agent told ESPN after the game. His unavailability was not a benching or any other kind of disciplinary move by the team, ESPN’s Mike Reiss shared on the Sports Hub on Monday.

Jackson, 28, was acquired by the Patriots via trade in early October after the team was hit with multiple injuries at the cornerback position. He played in eight games for the Patriots this year – starting six – but did miss time in November after being benched for showing up late to the team hotel.
While the Patriots have Jackson under contract for three more seasons, there is no more guaranteed money left on his deal. The team can release him with no cap penalty at the end of the season.
To fill Jackson’s roster spot the Patriots signed running back Kevin Harris to the active roster from the practice squad. Harris, a sixth-round pick in 2022, had been elevated from the practice squad the last two weeks as a depth running back behind Ezekiel Elliott with Rhamondre Stevenson out with an ankle injury. Harris scored his first touchdown of the season last week.
The Patriots also filled Harris’ practice squad spot, signing defensive back William Hooper. This will be Hooper’s second stint on the Patriots’ practice squad this year, after spending time with the team in September.

A tale of two halves: 9 takeaways from the Patriots' loss to the Chiefs
For a second there, it looked like the New England Patriots were about to pull off the upset of the year, and really pick up some momentum to close their otherwise-disappointing 2023 season on a high note. Late in the second half they had a 10-7 lead on the Kansas City Chiefs, but things quickly turned form there.
Kansas City executed a textbook two-minute drill, taking a 14-10 lead at halftime. That touchdown was the first of four consecutive scoring drives for the Chiefs, who put up 20 unanswered points on their way to a 27-17 win on Sunday at Gillette Stadium.

It was the second week in a row the Patriots struggled in the second half. Last week against the Steelers they were blanked after the break, but still managed to hold on for the win. Against a much more explosive Chiefs team this week, that wasn’t the case as the second half has suddenly become the latest boogeyman for a team that has been haunted by a number of issues throughout the season.
Between all of that, it really was a game of ‘the good, the bad, and the ugly’ for the Patriots. Let’s go through it all in this week’s takeaways…
