Illness continues to impact Patriots as they prepare for Chiefs

On Thursday, the Patriots had multiple players downgraded on the injury report due to an illness. Tackle Trent Brown (ankle/hand/illness) and special teamer Brenden Schooler (illness) both missed Thursday’s session due to that illness, after being on the field the previous day.
For the final practice of the week, Schooler returned to the field but Brown did not, in addition, Christian Barmore (shoulder/illness) also didn’t practice after being limited the first two days.

Despite that, none of the three players have been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Brown and Barmore are listed as questionable, as is linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley (knee), who was added to the injury report for the first time this week on Friday. Other players questionable for Sunday’s game are wide receivers DeVante Parker (knee), JuJu Smith-Schuster (ankle), and Tyquan Thornton (hamstring) and special teamer Matthew Slater (groin). Running back Rhamondre Stevenson (ankle) was the lone player ruled out, as was previously expected.
In positive injury news for the Patriots the team removed four players from the report. That group includes wide receiver Demario Douglas (concussion). Bill Belichick told reporters on Friday morning Douglas was expected to clear concussion protocol and is expected to be available on Sunday. Wide receiver Kayshon Boutte (shoulder), tackle Tyrone Wheatley (knee), and Schooler were also removed from the report.
For the Chiefs, running back Isiah Pacheco (shoulder) was ruled out after not practicing all week. Pacheco has been a key part of the Chiefs’ offense this year – in addition to being their leading rusher he’s also their third-leading pass-catcher.

Not allowing a get-right game: Patriots vs. Chiefs What To Watch For
The Kansas City Chiefs were the story of the NFL last week. Their late offensive meltdown – both on the field and off of it – resulted in their third loss in their last four games. For the first time in the Patrick Mahomes era the AFC West feels up in the air, with the Denver Broncos now just a game back in the standings.
This week that upset Kansas City team will have a chance to take its frustrations out on – the New England Patriots. In a game that was originally slated for Monday Night Football before being flexed, the Patriots will host the Chiefs at Gillette Stadium at 1:00 p.m. ET on Sunday.

If it feels like it’s been a while since the Patriots and Chiefs have played – it has been. This was pretty much an annual matchup, either in the regular season or playoffs, during the end of the Tom Brady era. However the two franchises have now gone the maximum three years without seeing each other.
It’s been a bit since their last matchup, but it was a memorable one. Early in the 2020 season it looked like the Cam Newton-led Patriots had some momentum, heading into a Week 4 game at Arrowhead. However, Newton tested positive for COVID-19 the day before the game, leaving the Patriots to turn to Brian Hoyer and Jarrett Stidham. Still, the Pats kept things close for most of the game against the then-defending champs, before the Chiefs pulled away late for a 26-10 win.
Once again, the Patriots come into this matchup lacking firepower on offense, against a Chiefs team trying to repeat as Super Bowl. However, there are a few key differences in the Chiefs’ roster from that game to now. We’ll highlight those without this week’s What To Watch For…
