Zolak & Bertrand: Why the Patriots and 49ers make sense for a Brandon Aiyuk trade
On Friday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, the crew breaks down why the Patriots and 49ers match-up for a Brandon Aiyuk trade.
Aiyuk isn’t getting shipped to a Super Bowl contender…
Marc Bertrand:
The 49ers are not going to engage, if they do engage, with any teams about trading Brandon Aiyuk that they could see in the Super Bowl. They also won’t engage in the NFC with any team they could see in the playoffs. So, if you’re looking for teams they might be willing to talk to… unfortunately and fortunately, the Patriots would be in that group. Unfortunately, they’re so bad that no one views them as a threat. And fortunately, that’s why you might be able to land a player, whether it be Aiyuk or anyone else in this league.
Paul Perillo:
You know, one of the reports that kind of troubled me about Aiyuk is that he wants to go to Washington because of his relationship with Jayden Daniels. I don’t like that. Why do you want that? Why do you want to go to a rebuild? You’re on a Super Bowl ready team and over money you want to go and play with your friend?
Marc Bertrand:
No. I think over money, he wants to go play for money and he knows that.
Paul Perillo:
We know he can get the money in San Francisco. He wants more to go play with his friend.
Marc Bertrand:
No, but you know that his fear is that he’s gonna get tagged at the end of the year. That’s got to be his fear. That’s what every player’s fear is at that point in the deal. They want the extension, they want the guarantees, they want the big deal.
Paul Perillo:
But that’s an easy out. Give him a little bump right nowas insurance that you won’t use the tag.
