Holley: ‘Drake Maye will be better than Jayden Daniels’
Michael Holley, who is filling in for Beetle on Zolak and Bertrand, provides reasons why he thinks Drake Maye will be better than Heisman-winning quarterback Jayden Daniels, which Zolak agrees with.
Holley: OK, the whiteboard is very important, as you know. So that’s your first tell of what you got, how a guy processes. I was impressed. I’m impressed with Drake Maye overall for many reasons. And look, this is going to sound like a criticism of other guys. Drake Maye didn’t do what Jayden Daniels did. So Jayden Daniels, who I think is physically a different guy with his speed.
Zolak: He’s more gifted, yeah.
Holley: Well, speed. I think Drake Maye is going to be better than Jayden Daniels.
Zolak: I do agree. Five years from now, you’ll be looking back on his draft, I do agree.
Holley: Five years you look back, but I don’t think it’s going to take that long for him to show what he’s got. Jayden Daniels shopped for the right program. A lot of guys do. You shop for programs to boost your draft status. Good for him. Drake Maye has had a lot of challenges at North Carolina, but if you just look at the talent, you look at the enthusiasm, you look at the ability to pick things up quickly. I think he’s going to be fantastic. I really do.
Zolak: The more you hear from him, the more I like. I had to sort of, I don’t want to say talked into this, I understand he’s been one of the biggest names in that. I look at who you play, the scheduling, did he have good coaching, and whether the line was better two years ago than it was this year. I’m all of the understanding if you pick a guy three you play him. Like top five picks play day one National Football League, that’s just the way it is. I mean, you’re not picking a guy top five and sitting him.
