Cerrone Battle: Patriots aren’t as bad as people think they are
On Wednesday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, Cerrone Battle explained why the Patriots aren’t as bad as people think they are.
Things change so fast…
Cerrone Battle:
I don’t think they’re as bad as people think they are. I don’t think they were as bad last year as people made them out to be. I think the dysfunction with everything that was going on, knowing the coach is probably leaving, the quarterback situation, the coaching staff, Bill O’Brien, Bill Belichick, Mac Jones, Bailey Zappe, Christian Gonzalez injury, Matt Judon injury. All that stuff I think was just a mental hurdle that they didn’t even try to get over. Let’s get through the season. Let’s just get out of here. I don’t look at them the same way I look at the Carolina Panthers, who I think they just don’t have anything to work with. They have no talent whatsoever. They weren’t in games, they weren’t competitive. There’s other teams who I think are in shambles and have been in shambles for years and in the NFL there’s always a quick flip. We look at the schedule and say, oh yeah, that team will win 10 games and 11 games. We looked at the Patriots schedule last year before the season started and said man, they play all these double-digit win teams. There’s no way they’re going to be in any of these games, but five weeks into the season, you’re playing backup quarterbacks the rest of the way. It changes that fast. We watched the Patriots play the Houston Texans in the preseason game and thought they were. We sat right here and said, you know what, they played pretty well against that Texas team.
Joe Murray:
Man, that CJ Stroud doesn’t look so great.
Cerrone Battle:
He doesn’t make good decisions. He doesn’t move his feet. Look at the way the pocket collapsed around him. Those receivers in Houston are terrible. What happened? They played the young quarterback with those young receivers and just like that, they became a hot team.
