The Boston Celtics, long the best team in basketball, are down to their final four games of the regular season.
And with the postseason around the corner, the team has officially filled their 15th and final roster spot, with Neemias Queta officially signed to a standard NBA contract, according to the team.
Originally with the club on a two-way contract, the 7-foot Queta’s made 26 appearances with the Celtics in 2023-24, with 4.6 points and 4.1 rebounds per game while averaging 11:23 per outing. Queta has also shot 61.4 percent over that 26-game run. When looking at Queta’s production through a per-36 scope, the 24-year-old Queta ranked first in rebounds per 36 minutes (13.0), while his 1.8 blocks per 36 minutes ranked third, trailing only Kristaps Porzingis (2.4) and Luke Kornet (2.3).
And when not in Boston with the Big C’s this season, Queta has made eight appearances for G-League Maine, averaging 14.4 points and 8.8 rebounds per game, along with a 65.8 field goal percentage.
What’s also notable about Queta’s signing is that he was approaching the limit for a player signed to a two-way contract, so this elevation lifts any potential restrictions on Queta moving forward.
Queta’s signing to a standard contract also makes him eligible for the postseason, giving the Celtics another big in a postseason run that could be full of the Celtics going against notable bigs if things play out the way they could and should, from Miami’s Bam Adebayo to Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo and even Denver’s Nikola Jokic. And though Queta slots behind Porzingis, Kornet, and even forward-centers like Al Horford and Xavier Tillman, depth at the five is never a bad thing.
The deal for Queta is also a multi-year deal, according to Brian Robb of MassLive.com.
Originally a second-round of the Kings back in 2021, Queta has appeared in 45 NBA games between Sacramento and Boston.
Boston Celtics potential first-round playoff matchups
The NBA season is winding down and with that the first round of the playoffs are on the horizon for the Boston Celtics. Who that first round opponent will be is still to be determined but the picture is becoming clearer. So let’s take a look at who some of those potential matchups could be.
Boston has been coasting this season dominating in the regular season with a league best 60-16 record. The Celtics have already locked up the #1 seed in the entire NBA with their win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night at the Garden.

Most Likely: Philadelphia 76ers
Right now for the Boston Celtics the Philadelphia 76ers are mathematically their most likely first round opponent. Celtics fans may see this matchup and see it as a good thing as they have dominated the 76ers in the playoffs in recent years. However with last seasons MVP Joel Embiid returning from injury and new 76ers head coach Nick Nurse at the helm this 76ers team may be a tougher out than in years past.
Embiid hasn’t played in a long time and will have limited minutes of regular season basketball under his belt heading into the playoffs but could this actually be a benefit to the 76ers. Getting a rested Joel Embiid could be a massive difference maker for a team that’s desperate to get a playoff series win against the Celtics. Nick Nurse is another key piece of why I wouldn’t be thrilled if the Celtics draw the 76ers in the first round.
Nurse is one of the better coaches in the league and being able to strategize for a Celtics team over a potential 7 game series should give any fan some slight pause. No matter who the Celtics first round opponent is they have no excuses to not make it out of the first round but Philadelphia poses a much tougher test than your normal 8 seed matchup.
