Schefter: Patriots place Stephon Gilmore on PUP list
Stephon Gilmore‘s absence will officially continue into the regular season. ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that the team has moved their star cornerback to the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.
Gilmore has missed all of training camp as he recovers from a torn quad he suffered late last season. In addition, Gilmore is reportedly unhappy with his current contract, and although he reported to Foxborough for the start of camp is believed to be engaged in what has been described as a ‘hold-in.’
Players on reserve PUP no longer count against the team’s roster total, and must miss at least six weeks. That means the Patriots won’t have Gilmore for games against the Dolphins, Jets, Saints, Buccaneers, Texans, and Cowboys. After that six week window passes, Gilmore can begin practicing at any point. Once he participates in a practice, the Patriots have up to 21 days to officially activate him, or he becomes ineligible for the remainder of the season.
