Patriots activate Christian Barmore ahead of Rams game
The New England Patriots are getting one of their best players back.
Defensive tackle Christian Barmore is being activated from the non-football illness list ahead of Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams, as first reported by Ian Rapoport. According to the initial report, Barmore “should play” on Sunday at Gillette Stadium.
Barmore has been absent throughout the 2024 season after suffering from blood clots during training camp, which put him on the shelf indefinitely. An early report from Albert Breer said the Pats “caught it,” indicating that they were able to intervene and treat the blood clots before they got worse. That ostensibly is what allowed Barmore to return to the field during the season, rather than missing the entire campaign, as center David Andrews had to do when he dealt with blood clots in 2019.
The 25-year-old Barmore practiced in a limited capacity on Thursday, then missed practice on Friday before being listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Rams. So, even if Barmore is active, it’s unlikely he plays a lot.
Barmore was also the subject of an off-field incident earlier in the 2024 season, as he was captured on video having a heated interaction with police in Providence. He later issued a public apology for his actions.
The fourth-year defensive tackle enjoyed something of a breakout season in year 3, amassing 8.5 sacks, 16 quarterback hits, and six batted passes in 17 games.
Now, the Patriots will see if Barmore can come back just in time to make an impact on the Patriots defense and a season that feels lost at 3-7. But with the Patriots coming off an excellent defensive performance with two wins in their last three games, perhaps Barmore can provide a surprising amount of hope.
