Patriots not ruling out Drake Maye, or anyone else, for Sunday against Titans
Based on comments from head coach Jerod Mayo and Friday’s injury report, it appears it’s still possible for New England Patriots starting quarterback Drake Maye to play on Sunday.
The question of whether or not New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye (concussion) can play this Sunday against the Tennessee Titans will continue on into the weekend. Despite still being in the NFL Concussion Protocol, Maye wasn’t formally ruled out for the game on Friday.
Friday started with the latest update on Maye from head coach Jerod Mayo. “He is still in the protocol. So, he is still in the protocol and going through that process,” Mayo said. “So, he’ll be limited. He has been limited this week so far, but he’ll be limited today as well.”
In a follow up answer, Mayo did acknowledge that given where Maye is in the protocol right now, there still is a chance he could play on Sunday.
Maye was present for the open portion of practice for the second day in a row. He was listed as limited on the injury report for the day, and questionable for the game.
Not only did the Patriots not rule out Maye – they didn’t rule out anyone. All eight players remaining on the injury report on Friday are listed as questionable. That includes Maye, left tackle Vederian Lowe (ankle/shoulder) and safety Kyle Dugger (ankle).
Cornerback Alex Austin (ankle) is also questionable. Austin is technically still on IR, but was designated to return this week. If the Patriots want to activate him they’d need to open up a spot on the 53-man roster. At the same time, they still have two more weeks in his designated to return window.
Nine players were also removed from the Patriots’ injury report. Among that group is wide receiver Ja’Lynn Polk (concussion), who missed last week’s game. He could be back in the lineup this Sunday.
The Titans ruled three players out. Starting cornerback L’Jarius Sneed (quad) and rotational running back Tyjae Spears (hamstring) both won’t go. Seven more players are questionable including quarterback Will Levis (right shoulder). Start5ing running back Tony Pollard (foot), wide receiver Tyler Boyd (shoulder), guard Dillon Radunz (foot), defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat (hip), and safety Armani Hooker (groin) will be game-time decisions as well.
