NFL Week 2’s best matchups
Week 2 of the NFL season is already here so let’s take a look at the best matchups this week. After a slow offensive start to the NFL season fans around the league will be hoping their quarterbacks figure somethings out in week 2. With the average passing yards being 185 in week 1 play at the most important position in sports was down across the board.
There could be a myriad of reasons why this was the case in week 1 but the lack of starters playing in the preseason seems to be a popular opinion on why this happened. With that in mind I expect week 2 to be a big week for quarterbacks not just bouncing back but excelling in week 2. Although both of these teams won in week 1 there’s no better place to start than the Thursday night football matchup this week.
Buffalo Bills (+2.5) @ Miami Dolphins
Week 2 of the NFL season kicks off with a great game on Thursday night. As the 1-0 Bills head to Miami to take on the 1-0 Dolphins. Both teams got off to slow starts in week 1 falling behind early but battled back to secure week 1 wins.
The Bills were dragged to a week 1 win by Josh Allen making plays with his arm and legs scoring twice on the ground. While Tua was the leading passer in week 1 eclipsing 330 yards with 1 touchdown and zero interceptions. An AFC East clash with two of the most explosive offenses in football is a great way to start week 2.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+7) @ Detroit Lions
Another set of 1-0 teams heading into a good week 2 matchup. As the Baker Mayfield led Bucs head to Detroit to take on Jared Goff and the Lions. Goff and Baker are both quarterbacks that weren’t wanted at one point in time and have made the most of their new teams.
Goff has the Lions in the best place they’ve been in decades as fans are hopeful of a deep playoff run this season. While Baker has a chance to bring the Bucs another NFC South title in a weak division. I expect this to be a high scoring affair between two offenses with high powered weapons all around.
Cincinnati Bengals (+6) @ Kansas City Chiefs
Anytime you get Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow head to head it’s going to be one of the more notable games of the weekend. For Burrow and the Bengals though they are coming off one of the most disappointing performances in week 1. Losing to a Patriots team that some thought would be one of the worst in the league. Burrow and the Bengals were disjointed throughout the game and made costly mistakes to lose their season opener.
While the defending champion Chiefs led by the best player in the league Patrick Mahomes, are coming off an impressive week 1 win over the Baltimore Ravens. Mahomes new weapon rookie receiver Xavier Worthy was flying all over the field and the Chiefs defense was stout limiting Lamar Jackson’s playmaking ability. The Bengals need to come out looking like a completely different team in week 2 to avoid starting 0-2.
Chicago Bears (+7) @ Houston Texans
This one may not be a marquee game for some NFL fans but I do think having CJ Stroud the rookie of the year last year taking on #1 pick Caleb Williams who struggled in week 1 will be a game to watch this weekend. Bears fans will be hoping that Williams bounces back after a rough week 1 performance in which the Bears defense bailed out the offense. Picking off Will Levis late to secure a surprise Bears win.
While Stroud and the Texans headed into the season as a lot of peoples dark horse Super bowl pick in large part due to Stroud;s play last year. For me I think Williams has all the ability in the world to be a good NFL QB but he’ll need to show some glimpses of that in week 2 if the Bears are going to have any chance to beat a tough Texans team.
Atlanta Falcons (+6.5) @ Philadelphia Eagles
The last week 2 matchup I want to highlight is the Monday night football matchup between the Falcons and the Eagles. The Eagles are coming off a week 1 win in Brazil where the offseason addition of Saquon Barkley is already paying massive dividends. Barkley scored 3 times in his Eagles debut adding another weapon to an already impressive Eagles offense.
While Atlanta’s offseason addition of Kirk Cousins didn’t live up to expectations in week 1. Cousins injury from last year could still be lingering but the Falcons are going to need Cousins to bounce back in week 2. The Falcons roster is built to compete in the NFC South now and if Cousins can’t turn it around Falcons fans will be clamoring for rookie QB Michael Penix sooner rather than later.
