Former Celtic believes Doc Rivers is too old school
The Eastern conference made some big moves this season as the Celtics acquired Kristaps Porzingis in a trade to help the duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. To counter that move, The Milwaukee Bucks traded for Damian Lillard matching him with Giannis and competed for an NBA Championship. One of the moves to help the Celtics was Jrue Holiday being sent to Portland in the Lillard trade. He eventually made his way to Boston to eventually bolster the Celtics lineup adding a player who has won a Championship previously in Milwaukee.
Milwaukee had an interesting season, despite a winning record entering the All-star break they made a coaching move. Adrian Griffin led the team to a 30-13 start and his replacement was none other than Doc Rivers. He has led the team to a sub-.500 mark after taking over and backed their way into the playoffs. Now, he and the Bucks are one loss away from a second consecutive first-round exit.
Former Celtic Glen “Big Baby’ Davis has been critical of his former coach saying he was “Lucky as Hell” winning a championship in 2008. I had a chance to catch up with Davis regarding the Celtics and asked him about his relationship with Rivers. “Being the president and having to make decisions didn’t fit” when they both were with the Clippers. He went on to say, “in the clutch, Doc is not going to make it happen” He experienced losing 3-1 leads and losing game sevens. He needs to change his way of thinking and culture, it’s too old school” Davis also mentioned that if the Celtics don’t win a championship this season, they should split up Tatum & Brown.
The Eastern Conference will still go through Boston this season, let’s see if Rivers and the Bucks can come back in the series.
