Would Brad Stevens consider coaching again?
The Celtics have clinched the best record in the NBA and home court advantage throughout the NBA Playoffs. They are the current favorites to win the NBA championship and just locked up their core for the next few season after offering Jrue Holiday an extension. The question now is, will the Celtics go on to win the championship? If they do, would Stevens consider coaching again at the NBA or in college?
The Celtics president of basketball operations has made a strong case to win NBA Executive of the Year for the 2023-24 campaign. Stevens name was floated in recent weeks as a possible candidate to take over the Kentucky Job after John Calipari left for Arkansas. It wouldn’t be the first time Stevens name has come up in the college level. In 2021, the Indiana Hoosiers coaching job became available and it seemed like an interesting fit for the former Butler coach. But at the time Stevens said he wanted to coach the Celtics, then moved to the front office.
The Green are 170-74 during Stevens’ tenure as a team executive and he has assembled not only the best roster in the league. Why would he want to leave a cushy front office job just to return to recruiting and dealing with the NIL? Money could be one reason, colleges have plenty to spend and Indiana could become available if he was interested. The other reason is if the Celtics win the NBA Championship, would he want another challenge and coach again? Stevens is in a great position with the Celtics, every move he has made has worked. He has set the team up for success for years to come. No one would blame him if he had other aspirations to coach, I don’t see it happening but it all depends on the success of the Celtics in the playoffs.
