Grant Halverson/Getty ImagesAccording to Schefter and Albert Breer, the drumbeat for the Washington Commanders selecting Jayden Daniels in the NFL Draft has gotten louder.
The New England Patriots will have to wait and see what the Bears and Commanders do before picking at No. 3, unless they trade up (which is unlikely). However, thanks to a report from Adam Schefter, it seems like the Washington Commanders, currently holding the 2nd overall pick, will likely choose LSU's Jayden Daniels. Schefter hinted on his podcast, saying, "Let's pencil him in there."
WATCH HERE:
“I know we’re not supposed to spoil picks, and we’ll see how the Commanders decide to move forward with the No. 2 overall selection,” Schefter said during The Adam Schefter Podcast. “But a little over a few weeks out, to me, I think the signs continue to point to Jayden Daniels being the second overall pick. Seems like he’s popular in the scouting community, seems like he’d bring a lot of the attributes that the Commanders would like.”
“I think Jayden Daniels is going to be someone who really appeals to them,” Schefter continued. “It’s hard for me today to see Jayden Daniels sliding much past pick No. 2. So, let’s pencil him in there.”
If Caleb Williams and Daniels are gone by No. 3, the Patriots might pick Maye, whom Coach Jerod Mayo thinks highly of. But they're also open to trading back if they're not sure about the available players.
During his appearance on Toucher & Hardy, Albert Breer from theMMQB.com elaborated on why Schefter’s comments have merit.

WALLACH: “Adam Schefter said on his podcast yesterday that all signs point towards Jayden Daniels going to Washington and that Drake Maye, in theory, would come here. Are you hearing the same stuff?”
ALBERT BREER: “The Jayden Daniels to Washington drumbeat has gotten louder and louder. There are different reasons why people think that. Generally, defensive head coaches want the guy who's really hard to combat, right? A mobile quarterback is a nightmare for a defensive head coach. So, with Dan Quinn there, you probably want the more athletic guy, and that’s Jayden Daniels. On top of that, if you look at Kliff Kingsbury's history, he's the offensive coordinator there and who he's had over the course of his career, whether it's Kyler Murray, Baker Mayfield, Patrick Mahomes, like all these guys who have creativity baked into their game. And Jayden Daniels is certainly that. I've gotten some hints and like just some breadcrumbs from the pro day circuit that people who've interacted with Washington think that Washington's taking Jayden Daniels.”
