Gibson, 25, was a third round pick by Washington in 2020 out of Memphis, where he played wide receiver. He moved to running back ahead of the NFL Draft.
After being drafted, Gibson spent his first four seasons in Washington. In 16 games last season with two starts, Gibson mainly served as a pass-catching back. He caught 48 passes for 389 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 265 yards on 65 carries and added another score on the ground. Gibson also returned kicks the last two years.
A more quick, shifty runner, Gibson’s style makes him a strong complement for Rhamondre Stevenson in the Patriots’ backfield. Gibson also profiles as a fit for new offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt’s zone rushing offense.
