Patriots agree to one-year deal to re-sign quarterback
The New England Patriots ended the week by making their first re-signing of the offseason. It comes at the quarterback position.
As first reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Patriots are re-signing QB Nathan Rourke. The financial side of the deal was not initially reported but according to Patriots salary cap expert Miguel Benzan, the move is not expected to impact the Patriots’ overall salary cap number.

Rourke, 25, joined the Patriots late last season when the team claimed him off waivers from the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was the emergency third quarterback after signing, before being active for the final game of the regular season.
2023 was Rourke’s first season in the NFL. He’d previously spent two years with the BC Lions of the CFL, winning the CFL Most Outstanding Canadian Award in 2022.
Clearly, Rourke made an impression during his short time on the Patriots this season if the team is bringing him back before free agency officially opens. The team’s quarterback room as a whole is expected to be in flux over the coming months, with Mac Jones’ future in doubt and the team owning the third overall pick in the NFL Draft.
Re-signing Rourke leaves the Patriots with 21 remaining pending free agents, after Matthew Slater and James Ferentz retired last month. Here’s a look at the full list…
