The New England Patriots appear serious about retaining their core players.
According to Karen Guregian and Mark Daniels at MassLive, the Patriots “have an offer on the table” for safety Kyle Dugger. The 27-year-old is on track for unrestricted free agency starting at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 13.

The NFL’s legal tampering period begins on Monday, March 11. Dugger will be free to negotiate to other teams at that point. Now, he reportedly already has an offer from the Patriots to compare to what he’d get around the league.

The Patriots could place the franchise tag on Dugger, which would cost them about $17.1 million. But Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo told reporters at the NFL Combine that, despite the tag being an “option,” he prefers to work out long-term deals with potential cornerstones like Dugger and offensive lineman Mike Onwenu.
Patriots GM-without-the-title Eliot Wolf feels the same way. He is bringing his core philosophies from the Green Bay Packers to New England. That means he intends to extend key homegrown players from within, while continually drafting and developing.
With that in mind, Dugger and Onwenu sound like strong candidates to actually stay with the Patriots, rather than depart in free agency. But the Pats will have to field competitive offers, especially to Onwenu. It’s unknown how competitive this first offer to Dugger really is.

Ranking the top-10 free-agent wide receivers of 2024
Free-agent wide receivers are about to have a great year.
Starting off as one of the strongest receiver markets we’ve seen in years, the pool has shallowed a bit at the position, with arguably the top-2 names – Mike Evans and Tee Higgins – getting a new two-year deal and a franchise tag, respectively. But there are still some talented guys expected to cash in with receiver-needy teams.

So, read below for our top-10 remaining free-agent wideouts. It’s still a list worth knowing…
1. Michael Pittman Jr.

Pittman is more of an inside receiver than outside, but he’s better than that. His size and athleticism makes him more dangerous than your typical slot guy. Pittman racked up a career-best 109 catches and 1,152 yards in 2023, as he continued to be one of the league’s better separators with his route-running and footwork.
A reliable option over the middle of the field for any quarterback, Pittman would be an elite safety net with high-end production for whoever signs him.
