Mazz: I would trade Jake DeBrusk

The Boston Bruins once again find themselves among the best team in the NHL. On Tuesday’s Felger and Mazz, Mazz gave his thoughts on the the recent hot streak of forward Jake DeBrusk and how he’d trade him right now.

Would you trade Jake DeBrusk?

Mazz: Can I add something else to the list of things I do not believe in?

Felger: Oh please do.

Mazz: Jake DeBrusk…In his last 13 games he has 8 goals and 4 assists for 12 points and he’s a +9. Pretty good. Third goal last night? Excellent. He set it up and basically got the rebound and jammed in there. A significant goal in a game like that. It’s A huge play. He was into it and he was motivated. I’d trade his ass tomorrow. Actually I would have traded his ass yesterday. I’d take Trent Frederic over Jake DeBrusk seven days a week, twice on Sunday.

Felger: Well that’s a turn.

Mazz: It’s a big one actually. It is. Yeah. I wasn’t a Frederic guy but he’s pretty good. At least I know with Frederic what I’m going to get every night.

Felger: He’s going to stick his nose in there.

Mazz: Yes, I know what I’m going to get every night. And the offense has been a pleasant surprise. I think he’s legitimately become like a 15 to 20 goal player. Maybe he’s 20 to 25, I don’t know. Let’s see how that shakes out. But I’ll take my chances because I think Frederic gives you everything he’s got in the tank every night. Every night for the most part, they all take a night off here in there. DeBrusk? (laughter) If you’re taking the cheese on him….Oh, you’re a fool! You’re a fool if you’re taking the cheese on him! Jake Debrusk, I would trade his ass yesterday. Yesterday. Can’t do it soon enough.

Coyle scores again, Bruins down Jets 4-1

Charlie Coyle scored his 17th goal of the season, powering the Boston Bruins to a 4-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets on Monday at TD Garden. Coyle scored late in the first period for what would eventually be the game-winning goal.

Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman stopped 21 of 22 Jets shots (.955) for his 15th win of the season. Swayman has now won four starts in a row.

With the victory, the Bruins improved to 29-8-9 on the season, maintaining their lead atop the Atlantic Division.

The Bruins struck first off the stick of Jakub Lauko, who has suddenly scored two goals in three games. The 23-year-old Lauko finished a heads-up pass by Trent Frederic through the slot to the guy with the open angle.

  • The Bruins’ first lead would last under two minutes, before Winnipeg got it back. Vladislav Namestnikov tipped defenseman Dylan DeMelo’s point shot past Swayman to tie the game 1-1.

  • As the period hit the closing minutes, the Bruins were able to put enough pressure on the Jets to make them crack. First, defenseman Hampus Lindholm called for the puck from the point, then ripped a shot down the middle that Coyle tipped home for a 2-1 Bruins lead and the eventual game-winner.

    Coyle is red-hot, with three goals and eight points over his last five games. He’s up to 17 goals on the season, putting himself on pace to shatter his career-high of 21.

  • The game went scoreless throughout the second period, and most of the third. The Bruins weren’t without their chances to put the game away earlier, missing out on two power plays.

    Later, the Jets were applying pressure on a power play before the Bruins managed to rush it the other way. Jake DeBrusk then finished a shorthanded rebound to give the Bruins a much-needed insurance goal at the most unlikely of times. DeBrusk has now scored a goal in three straight games.

  • Brad Marchand added an empty-net goal, assisted by Coyle, to finish the game off.

    Up Next: The Bruins’ homestand continues on Wednesday night, when they will look to keep their winning momentum going in a tough matchup against the Carolina Hurricanes.
