Scott Zolak: “It’s evident” that JuJu Smith-Schuster’s knee isn’t right
After the Patriots lost to the Dolphins 24-17, Scott Zolak said “it’s evident” that JuJu Smith-Schuster’s knee isn’t right.
There’s just no urgency, even in the warm-up…
Marc Bertrand: Can we all admit now, all of us in New England, can we all be adults and admit that Juju Smith-Schuster has something going on with his knee?
Scott Zolak: Oh, it’s evident.
…
Marc Bertrand: You guys were talking in the broadcast last night that every time he’d pick himself up off the turf, he was readjusting his right knee.
Scott Zolak: It’s not fixing your pants. The pants are too tight and short to go down to fim them. They don’t wear kneepads. I don’t know what you’re re-adjusting down there. It’s not a kneepad. He doesn’t wear a brace.
Marc Bertrand: Remember the fourth and three of a week ago snd the question was, did he run the wrong route? (Mike (Reiss) had some interesting insight on that last night pre-game and said and I’m paraphrasing here, but this was what he basically said. Not sure if he was running the wrong route there. It was a case of he was about to cut and then realized he couldn’t.
Scott Zolak: He should have cut in.
Marc Bertrand: Which is why he didn’t. It was out of fear of something going wrong with his knee, that it wasn’t that he didn’t know what to be doing, it was that he couldn’t do it at that moment in time. Which may have led to the team saying, oh crap, because as Mike said, it had nothing to do with his ability to know what to be doing and it everything to do with we’ve got to manage this. He said it was a management issue, which is why he was on the bench at the end of the game. They had to put him on the bench because they didn’t know what he could go do because of the knee.
Scott Zolak: Yeah, there was no sense of like even urgency in the warm-up. Like when they get out there and you’re like, okay, run a slant route. It’s it’s about a 70% effort slant.
Marc Bertrand: This is a bad signing.
Scott Zolak: And then he takes his time walking all the way back while others get back in line again. Run the route. You’re doing warm ups. It’s slant, slant. Everybody lines up. You get eight guys out there.
Marc Bertrand: They signed a guy with a bum knee. What are you doing? Why did you do that? You knew it. That’s why you have physicals, that’s why you have the paperwork, that’s why you have all of it.
Scott Zolak: You got (Jalen) Raeger elevated and called up, you know, from Saturday. Like, that’s the point you’re at two weeks in. Two.
