If the Patriots can play well to start the 2023 NFL season, they’re going to get recognized. As it turns out, more eyes will be on the team than expected over the first few weeks of September.
On Monday, CBS released its NFL broadcasting assignments for the first three weeks of this upcoming NFL season. Within it, the Patriots are heavily featured.

The Patriots’ Week 1 game against the Philadelphia Eagles will get the CBS ‘A-team’ of Jim Nantz, Tony Romo, and Tracy Wolfson. Kicking off at 4:25 against two West Coast games (Dolphins at Chargers and Raiders at Broncos) means it will likely be the ‘national’ game in the 4 o’clock window.
Two weeks later, the Patriots get the Nantz-Romo-Wolfson team again. This time they’ll be on the road, taking on the Jets. CBS having its ‘A-team’ on the call is again a sign that this could be the ‘national’ game for that window.
If both of those cases hold true, it means the majority of the country will be watching the Patriots three weeks in a row. In between those two games, they’ll host the Miami Dolphins on Sunday Night Football in Week 2.

Of course, some of this scheduling does go beyond the Patriots. Week 1 will be the Eagles’ first game since coming up on the losing side of Super Bowl LVII back in February. And the Jets game will be the Patriots’ first matchup with Aaron Rodgers in New York.
Regardless of the reason though, the Patriots will have plenty of time in the national spotlight to start the season. If they truly are a new team from last year, they’ll certainly have an opportunity to prove it right out of the gate.

5 biggest position and roster battles to watch in Patriots training camp
Football is just about back. This week, the Patriots begin their 2023 training camp at Gillette Stadium. The first set of practices will take place on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and then either Saturday or Sunday. All training camp practices at Gillette Stadium are open to the public free of charge.
What should fans be looking for when they head to training camp? One of the top storylines in any training camp for any team is usually the position and roster battles that play out throughout the summer.

Although they’re sometimes used interchangeably, position and roster battles are two different things. A position battle is between players both expected to make the team and at the same position, competing for a higher spot on the depth chart. A roster battle is between players sometimes at the same position and sometimes not, battling for a spot on the 53-man roster (this relates to the concept of the roster bubble and ‘at-large’ roster spots). At times, certain battles can be both.
The Patriots’ current roster sets up for both kinds of battles as 2023 training camp gets underway. There certainly seems to be more battles on offense than defense, but there will be something to watch in this regard at just about every position.
