Bruce Arena: All Focus on Toronto as Revs Aim for Perfect Homestand
The New England Revolution will look to close the three-game homestand with a maximum nine points when they take on Toronto FC at Gillette Stadium on Saturday night. Bruce Arena’s Revs secured a second straight win, both by 3-1 scorelines, when they dispatched Orlando City SC last weekend behind goals from Carles Gil, Gustavo Bou, and Emmanuel Boateng.
New England’s Sporting Director and Head Coach sounded satisfied with the team’s dominant performance during his weekly check-in with Zolak and Bertrand on Thursday afternoon.
“We had a good day. I think Orlando had a pretty solid game plan and wanted to do a good job and were defending with numbers,” Arena said of the Revs’ ninth win in 18 games. “We managed to score three very good goals against a team that was positioned defensively to shut us down, so I give our team a lot of credit.”
New England will now carry their 6-0-3 home record into their match vs. Toronto. Either a win or draw on the day would set a new club record for longest home-undefeated streak to open a season. Currently sitting in third place in the Eastern Conference with 33 points, Arena is hopeful that his squad can continue climbing the table with a three-point result on Saturday.
“I think it’s important. If we get three points, we get ourselves a little closer to Cincinnati and then we play them next and then we can close the gap. That would be the thinking there,” Arena added. “But regardless of Cincinnati, the focus is on beating Toronto, getting the three points. That would position our club favorably.
“We would be in second place with three points on Saturday, so that’s a real positive.”
Brad Feldman and Charlie Davies will have the call for Saturday’s 7:30 p.m. ET match on 98.5 The Sports Hub. The game is also available on any device for free on Apple TV in English, Spanish, and French.
