Patriots place two rookies on NFI list
The Patriots continue to shift their roster ahead of training camp next week. On Tuesday, the team placed rookie offensive linemen Chasen Hines and Andrew Stueber on the NFI list, as first reported by ESPN’s Mike Reiss.
Hines and Stueber were the Patriots’ final two draft picks this past spring, taken in the sixth and seventh rounds respectively. Neither participated in spring practices, with Bill Belichick telling reporters “they’re not ready to be out there.”
This doesn’t rule out Hines or Stueber from participating in camp in its entirely this summer. Last year, Rhamondre Stevenson was placed on the NFI list just before camp but then was activated after just a few days.
Both Hines and Stueber bring positional versatility to the offensive line, and are expected to compete for depth spots on the roster if available. The Patriots have two other rookie offensive linemen in first-round pick Cole Strange – who is expected to compete for the starting left guard spot – and UDFA interior offensive lineman Kody Russey who also figures to be in the battle for one of the depth spots.
