Boston Red Sox

Watch above for Red Sox Manager Alex Cora’s reaction to the team’s clutch win over the Houston Astros on Monday night, along with highlights from their late comeback, including a clutch home run by off-season addition Trevor Story.

Boston trailed 3-2 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, then Story launched a game-tying home run over the Green Monster and out of the ballpark. Story now has two homers and an .815 OPS in his last five games, after hitting zero with a .557 OPS in his first 25 games.

“He’s been swinging the bat well,” Cora said on Story’s home run. “Just a matter of slowing down the game. He saw the ball well, actually. He had more time early on, he made some decisions. But he felt like he was seeing the ball good, and now it was a matter of staying back and letting it travel, and he put a good swing on it.”

The Red Sox then took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI double by J.D. Martinez. Xander Bogaerts followed that up with a two-run home run to make it 6-3. Hansel Robles pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his second save.

After a slow offensive start to the season, the Red Sox are ninth in the majors with 28 runs scored over the past seven days. They are seventh in team OPS (.780) over that same span, and they’ve scored at least five runs in six straight games.

Now that Bogaerts, Martinez, and Story appear to be turning a corner after making adjustments, Cora is beginning to see what he expected from the Red Sox’ high-end offensive talent on paper.

“Everybody knows who they are,” Cora said. “Nothing has changed since spring training. We’re still a good team, and we’ve got guys, they do that on a nightly basis – everybody else has to contribute – but there are certain guys there that they’ve done it their whole careers. So, to put them in the lineup and [see them] do the things that they’re doing, it’s been fun for a while.”
