Patriots Free Agent Tracker, Day 2: The latest news and rumors
As we hit day two of the “legal tampering” period, plenty of big-name free agents remain without new deals. So it’s possible there is once again plenty of money flying around on Tuesday.
In Foxboro, the Patriots have spent the start of free agency shoring up their veteran leadership group and depth. They’ve agreed to new one-year deals for both safety Devin McCourty and special teams captain Matthew Slater. They also tendered restricted free-agent receiver Jakobi Meyers for one year at $3.9 million.
The bigger Patriots news on Monday was about their departures. Cornerback J.C. Jackson agreed to a five-year, $82.5 million deal with the Los Angeles Chargers that includes $40 million guaranteed. Additionally, guard/center Ted Karras signed a three-year deal with the Cincinnati Bengals. The Patriots have pressing needs at corner and on the offensive line as a result.
Though the start of 2022 isn’t close to the fireworks we saw to start 2021, there’s still a number of potential difference-making free agents still available. You can get all the latest news & rumors from across the league below in 98.5 The Sports Hub’s official NFL Free Agent Tracker.
