Report: Patriots sign linebacker off Dolphins practice squad
The Patriots started this week by losing depth at linebacker and on special teams when Harvey Langi was placed on IR with a knee injury. On Wednesday, the team signed a player who projects as at least a temporary replacement.
As first reported by ESPN’s Mike Reiss, the Patriots have signed linebacker Calvin Munson off the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad. Munson was not present at Patriots practice on Wednesday.
This will be Munson’s second stint in New England. Last time around, he spent the better part of two years on the Patriots’ practice squad from Oct. 2018 to Dec. 2019, when the Dolphins signed him.
Munson entered the NFL as a UDFA out of San Diego State in 2017, spending his rookie year with the New York Giants. He’s played in 32 career games spread over three seasons, making seven starts. Last season for Miami, he played 16 games mostly in a special teams role, but did see time on defense.
With Munson signed, the Patriots now have just one spot open on their 53-man roster. They also had an open practice squad spot, which was filled on Wednesday when the team signed cornerback Brian Poole.
