Red Sox interim manager Ron Roenicke is reuniting with an old friend, as Roenicke and Co. named Jerry Narron the team’s new bench coach on Saturday.

“He’s really good,” Roenicke, who had Narron on his staff during his run with the Brewers, told reporters. “And I wouldn’t do it just because he’s familiar with me. I’d do it because he’s really good.”

The 64-year-old Narron was most recently with the Arizona Diamondbacks as the team’s bench coach from 2017 through 2019, and comes to the Red Sox with coaching experience dating back to 1993.

Narron also has experience as a manager, as he managed the Rangers (2001-02) and Reds (2005-07) in between runs as a bench coach.

This will not be Narron’s first Boston run, either, as Narron served as the bench coach on Grady Little’s staff in 2003.
