The Red Sox did more than dodge questions about Alex Cora's alleged cheating on Wednesday, as the team pulled the trigger on a minor trade that sent Sam Travis to the Texas Rangers in exchange for left-handed pitcher Jeffrey Springs.

Springs, a 6-foot-3 southpaw from North Carolina, appeared in 25 games with the Rangers in 2109, and posted a 4-1 record with 32 strikeouts and a 6.40 ERA in 32.1 innings of work.

Originally selected in the 30th round of the 2015 MLB Draft, Springs has appeared in 43 career games (all with the Rangers), with a 5-2 record, three holds, and with batters hitting .275 with Springs on the bump.

(But can he manage?)

Travis, who was designated for assignment following the signing of backup catcher Kevin Plawecki earlier this month, hit .230 with seven home runs and 24 RBIs in 111 appearances over three years with Boston.

To make room for Springs on the 40-man roster, the Red Sox designated lefty Bobby Poyner for assignment.
