Marc Bertrand: 4 out of 5 spots on the Patriots offensive line need to be remodeled
On Monday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, Marc “Beetle’ Bertrand explained how 4 out of 5 spots on the offensive line need to be remodeled next season.
It’s why Drake Maye was running so much yesterday…
Scott Zolak:
Drake Maye’s legs yesterday, while coming off a concussion, there was zero hesitation. I counted five runs, four of them he went headfirst, one perfect slide earlier. But he really didn’t have anybody chasing him down from behind like he did a week ago with the Jets. Bad first interception. You’re under duress. He had pressure off the back foot. He just chucked that up. That was a chuck and duck throw. That was a poor throw. That was his worst throw of the day. But other than that, he’s the only one keeping you in the game. He’s the only one. He’s your best player on the field and he’s 22. Why wait for the build? Go get somebody this week. Go get a receiver so we can get somebody to help him. Get a tackle. You’re big on tackles and lineman. The reason the strip sack happened was because Vedarian Lowe gave up on that backside. Guy went right around him, all the way down, then came back downhill. Boom. Knocked the ball out.
Marc Bertrand:
They need a total makeover on their offensive line. You talk about the future with David Andrews coming back. I assume he’s coming back, but then what? Right. You’re getting a year. But you’re in a situation right now where David Andrews has a lot of miles in his NFL career. So, they need four of the five positions on the offensive line remodeled for next year. This doesn’t work and that’s why Drake Maye is out there running as much as he was yesterday.

The Patriots’ issues in this game weren’t new. They struggled at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, missed chances on routine plays, and racked up eight accepted penalties.
“We have to be better. I have to be better. Coaches have to be better,” head coach Jerod Mayo said after the game. “We go back to the drawing board.”
Where do the Patriots need to get better the most? What, if any, was promising from Sunday? Let’s get into it with this week’s takeaways, starting with what was probably the most concerning outcome from this game…
