Bertrand: Patriots will be boring with or without Drake Maye as starter
After securing the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and selecting quarterback Drake Maye, the projections still do not favor the New England Patriots. ESPN’s FPI (Football Power Index) predicts that the Pats have a 22% chance of owning the 1st overall pick in the 2025 Draft. Are we in for another uncompelling season? Marc Bertrand thinks the Patriots will once again be boring, even if Drake Maye starts games for them this year:
You know what I’m most worried about this team? First of all, they’re going to be bad. I’m not worried about that. I know they’re going to be bad.
I’m worried that they’re also going to be super boring like they were a year ago. It’s such a boring product, which they have been. They are a boring team. They’re a boring franchise right now. They have done nothing to excite you on the field. Yet, I fear that they are going to be absolutely dreadfully boring, with or without Drake Maye on the field.
Do you think Drake Maye is going to look much better with this offense? It’s not going to look better. It’s not going to look like they’re better as a team. Do you think the Patriots will be boring? Yeah, that’s my question. I fear it. I have a healthy fear of that happening. First year head coach, offensive coordinator, new quarterbacks coach, new defensive coordinator. No weapons. Nobody to throw to.
