Beetle: Eliot Wolf is talking more than Bill Belichick ever did
On Thursday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, Marc “Beetle” Bertrand’s initial takeaway was that Eliot Wolf is talking more than Bill Belichick and Matt Groh ever did.
Matt Groh’s name stuck out…
Marc Bertrand: They like (Chukwuma) Okorafor at eft tackle. They like their talent on offense. They lost out on Calvin Ridley because another team offered more money. These are things you would never hear Matt Groh or Bill Belichick say. So I will give Eliot Wolf a lot of credit for actually saying things of substance in that press conference. I’ll give him that.
Ted Johnson: I agree. Look, I love it. We said after we heard this press conference just now, and again it’s still going on, but Beetle and I asked each other how he sounded. Both of us thought maybe not as confident as he maybe sounded in the at the combine press conference. Nonetheless, I appreciate the words that come out of his mouth. I like the way he at least, treats the reporters and the rest of us listening with respect and will give us something. Even though it’s it’s a lot of veiled, ambiguous kind of responses. At least there’s something there to talk about. It’s an interesting situation that he finds himself in it. A lot of us had no idea when Bill left that there’s sujch a lack of where’s all the power going to go. Who inherits the power? And we weren’t really sure. Eliot Wolf is obviously the guy, it seems like along with Jerod Mayo, who’s kind of been given a lot of power, and we’ll see how they do. I can listen to that press conference and get something from it. You know, there’s a lot of stuff I wrote down. I thought some of the stuff that he said about who’s going to be involved? I thought there was a name that he mentioned about the group. it’s been this kind of big collaborative effort, in evaluating players in the draft and quarterbacks, and then it gets whittled down to a smaller group that’s a brain trust. Did you hear him mention a guy that I did not ever hear him mentioned before? And a lot of us were wondering if he was going to be involved in these smaller groups. That was Matt Grok. That was interesting to me for him to reveal that Matt Groh will be in that smaller group that is considered kind of the group that will be deciding ultimately on who they pick at number three. Some people from the scouting department, some coaches, Matt Groh, Eliot Wolf, and then Jerod Mayo. He did not mention the Krafts. I think Jonathan Kraft and Robert Kraft will be right there in the middle of it as well. Even though he did not mention those guys in his press conference.
Marc Bertrand: Do you know what he said in this that made me want to puke in my mouth a little bit?
Ted Johnson: What’s that?
Marc Bertrand: The more picks, the better. And we’re a draft and develop team.
