NFL announces date and time for Patriots’ Week 17 game against Chargers
Next week’s game between the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Chargers will now be played on Saturday.
For the second time in as many days, Patriots fans need to update their calendars. On Tuesday afternoon, the NFL announced that the Patriots’ Week 17 home game against the Los Angeles Chargers will be played on Saturday, Dec. 28 at 1 p.m. ET.
The call of the game can be heard on Saturday on 98.5 The Sports Hub and the Patriots Radio Network. Tune in starting at 10:00 for pregame coverage.
Patriots-Chargers was one of five games the NFL left for flex scheduling in Week 17 when the schedule was initially announced back in May. It gets moved to Saturday along with Broncos-Bengals (4:00) and Cardinals-Rams (8:00), while the Colts-Giants and Falcons-Commanders games will be added to Sunday’s slate, with Falcons-Commanders flexed into Sunday Night Football to replace Dolphins-Browns.

ESPN’s Mike Reiss had reported over the weekend that this move was a possibility. In addition to the Chargers being in playoff contention, Reiss noted that “the NFL loves to promote its young quarterback stars…it would be a chance to expose [Drake] Maye to a nationally televised audience for the first time.”
Saturday will be the second year in a row the Chargers take a December trip to Gillette Stadium. They made the trek across the country last year for Week 13, and left with a 6-0 win.
This is the second time in as many days the NFL has issued a scheduling update for the Patriots. On Monday, the league moved this upcoming Sunday’s game at the Buffalo Bills from the 1:00 window to 4:25.
