What would it take for Patriots to trade 3rd overall pick in NFL Draft? Christopher Price weighs in
On this morning’s Toucher & Hardy radio program, Fred and Rob “Hardy” Poole discussed potential NFL Draft scenarios, focusing on what it would take for Christopher Price, who covers the New England Patriots for the Boston Globe, to trade the 3rd overall pick. Price mentioned that he would consider at least three first-rounders or a package involving 11, 23, and possibly a future first-round pick or a player. They debated the value of different trade offers, emphasizing the importance of not losing out on elite talent and the uncertainty of future draft picks. Wallach also chimed in regarding the risk of relying on future picks when targeting specific positions like quarterbacks.

FRED TOUCHER: But I’m going to ask you, Christopher, based on your opinion, not what you think they’re going to do, but if you were the GM of the team, what would it take for you to say you like Mayor Daniels? Let’s assume what would it take for you to move out of three? What offer would be sufficient for you to move out of three, or is there one?
CHRISTOPHER PRICE: At least three first-rounders? Now, if you want to look at Minnesota for an example. I think if you’re looking at the Minnesota example, the reported proposal of 11 and 23, I would not do it for just 11 and 23. I would do it for 11, 23, maybe their first-round pick next year, or a player, for example. I think that’s the starting point. And I think you might be able to weed out Minnesota until Thursday night, and again, you’ll have that conversation with them. But I wouldn’t do it for anything less. Ultimately, then they’d prefer Trump. Okay.
FRED TOUCHER: If you get 11 and 23, you’ve lost a commodity there. You’re picking up a late first-round pick for what? I mean, I don’t know what you’re getting there. You’re certainly not getting an elite talent in an elite position. And then next year, Minnesota is not going to be bad. So it’s going to be another late pick even.
WALLACH: If Minnesota is bad, there’s no guarantee there’s going to be a quarterback sitting there for you to take next year.
CHRISTOPHER PRICE: Exactly. And that’s the thing. I mean, theoretically, then if you went with 11, 23, and their first-round pick next year, I would use 11 with the understanding that you don’t love either May or Daniels. You could look at Michael Penix or, forgive me for saying this, JJ McCarthy at 11 and then say, “All right, that’s our guy.”
