Mike Gesicki is officially one-and-done with the Patriots
One of the New England Patriots’ top free agent signings of last offseason is heading elsewhere. Mike Gesicki, who signed a one-year deal with the team at this time last year, is now joining the Cincinnati Bengals according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
For the second year in a row, Gesicki is getting a one-year deal. His new contract with Cincinnati is worth up to $3.25 million, per Schefter.

In his lone year in New England Gesicki struggled to produce. He played in 17 games and started 10, but his 29 catches and 244 yards were his fewest in a season since his rookie year in 2018. Given the Patriots’ offensive line issues, Gesicki’s blocking responsibilities increased as the season went on.
With the Bengals Gesicki should get more opportunities as a receiver. The only other tight end the Bengals currently have under contract is Drew Sample – who they re-signed to a three-year, $10.5 million dollar deal on Monday. Sample fits the profile of a more blocking tight end.
Meanwhile, the Patriots are now officially back in the market for a backup tight end after re-signing starter Hunter Henry prior to the start of the legal tampering period. Pharaoh Brown, who caught 13 passes for 208 yards last year as the Patriots’ third tight end, remains unsigned. Other top tight ends still available include Gerald Everett, Adam Trautman, Austin Hooper, and Harrison Bryant. Hooper and Bryant both played for new Patriots offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt in Cleveland.
