In or Out: Bridge QB Edition
The Patriots will be drafting a Quarterback in the NFL Draft this season. They also will be adding a veteran to the mix and there are many options available. The type of QB will be interesting based off what Jerod Mayo and the offensive coaching staff want. There are players available who have won in the past and some who have been career back ups. The Patriots brought back Cam Newton in 2020 but was beat out by a rookie in Mac Jones for the starting Job.
29 QBs have been drafted in the top 10 since 2010. Nearly 80% started at least 10 games in their rookie year (23 of 29). Of the QBs who started 10+ games, 13% of the teams had a winning record in year one (3 of 23). Of the QBs who started fewer than 10 games, 83% of the teams had a winning record in year one (5 of 6). Whoever the Patriots draft this year, they will need a veteran to start or work with a young player. There are plenty of names available to break down. Myself and Scaz went over the IN or Out edition of veteran QB’s next season.
I also had the chance to ask Felger & Mazz their thoughts on the next veteran Quarterback the Patriots should sign and free agency. There are plenty opinions on who is IN or OUT with reasoning from both.

There will be other names such as Drew Lock, Sam Darnold, Zach Wilson and others to consider. One name that wasn’t discussed was Bailey Zappe who played decent at the end of the season and won two games. He should be in the mix in training camp.
