Ian Rapoport thinks the Patriots take the best available quarterback at #3
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network joined Felger and Mazz on Radio Row on Wednesday to hit on all the latest New England Patriots news. When asked about what the Patriots should do with the 3rd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Rapoport says he thinks the Patriots should take a quarterback.
Rapoport thinks the Patriots take a quarterback at #3 overall…
Felger: Handicap what you think they’re going to do at number three?
Ian Rapoport: My guess right now would be take the best quarterback available.
Felger: Is that the right thing to do?
Ian Rapoport: Yes. So let’s just say, for the sake of argument, that there are two great quarterback at the top of the draft and then the next guy is three, when else are you going to be here? Just take him. Like if you’re taking quarterback at three who you think is like ten, just take him. Somebody is going to take him. Who cares. Just take a franchise guy, you hope you hit it right. If you hit it right, you’re good for 15 years. They’re not all like Tom Brady, but if you get a franchise guy right, you’re good forever. You’re the Houston Texans. So to me, if you’re not going to take one then it’s an acknowledgment that 1) we may be back here, which is not great. And 2) we are not even ready to build properly. Which is okay, I just don’t think that’s what this organization is.
Mazz: I do. I don’t think they have the talent on offense that you do, but that’s just my opinion.
Ian Rapoport: But that decision is going to be really interesting because let’s say they take an offensive tackle, you say, then you’re like, “oh, we are building. Like we are in it”. And I don’t know that people build for the long haul anymore, but that’s what I would say.
Mazz: So there’s a real message in that pick is what you’re saying?
Ian Rapoport: Yeah.
