Patriots elevate one player for Chiefs matchup

The New England Patriots are making just one practice squad elevation for Sunday’s matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs. ESPN’s Mike Reiss reported on Saturday afternoon that the team is elevating running back Kevin Harris for the game.
This will be the second elevation of the year for Harris, who was also added to the roster for last week’s game against the Steelers. Harris didn’t end up playing a snap in that game, but added emergency running back depth behind Ezekiel Elliott following Rhamondre Stevenson’s ankle injury.

There could be more of a chance for Harris to play this week. Last week the team used Ty Montgomery to spell Elliott, although Montgomery didn’t record a carry. Montgomery was cut following the game, leaving Elliott, Harris, and recently-signed Jamycal Hasty as the team’s running back options for this Sunday.
Harris was drafted by the Patriots in the sixth round last year. He spent his rookie year in 2022 back and forth between the active roster and practice squad. In total he appeared in five games carrying the ball 18 times for 52 yards and a score.
The past two weeks the Patriots had elevated quarterback/wide receiver Malik Cunningham from the practice squad, but Cunningham didn’t play in either game. That left some wondering if Cunningham was serving as the backup quarterback to Bailey Zappe, ahead of Mac Jones. That won’t be the case this week, with Cunningham signing with the Baltimore Ravens earlier this week. Now, Jones will be the backup quarterback with the team not elevating Will Grier, leaving Zappe and Jones as the only two active quarterbacks on the roster.

Not allowing a get-right game: Patriots vs. Chiefs What To Watch For
The Kansas City Chiefs were the story of the NFL last week. Their late offensive meltdown – both on the field and off of it – resulted in their third loss in their last four games. For the first time in the Patrick Mahomes era the AFC West feels up in the air, with the Denver Broncos now just a game back in the standings.
This week that upset Kansas City team will have a chance to take its frustrations out on – the New England Patriots. In a game that was originally slated for Monday Night Football before being flexed, the Patriots will host the Chiefs at Gillette Stadium at 1:00 p.m. ET on Sunday.

If it feels like it’s been a while since the Patriots and Chiefs have played – it has been. This was pretty much an annual matchup, either in the regular season or playoffs, during the end of the Tom Brady era. However the two franchises have now gone the maximum three years without seeing each other.
It’s been a bit since their last matchup, but it was a memorable one. Early in the 2020 season it looked like the Cam Newton-led Patriots had some momentum, heading into a Week 4 game at Arrowhead. However, Newton tested positive for COVID-19 the day before the game, leaving the Patriots to turn to Brian Hoyer and Jarrett Stidham. Still, the Pats kept things close for most of the game against the then-defending champs, before the Chiefs pulled away late for a 26-10 win.
Once again, the Patriots come into this matchup lacking firepower on offense, against a Chiefs team trying to repeat as Super Bowl. However, there are a few key differences in the Chiefs’ roster from that game to now. We’ll highlight those without this week’s What To Watch For…
