‘It’s a bad rule’
Beetle: Where else on the football field is you landing on top of a player illegal? So you’re right to look at that and say, this is ridiculous. It’s a ridiculous thing that they are trying to outlaw that. And I’m all for protecting the quarterbacks. I’m all for it. You hit a quarterback up high, you hit him low, you shot at the knee or something. I want you to have a window that’s the size of the strike zone to be able to hit the quarterback. So it is ridiculous. I get it. It’s crazy to see that get flagged just easy with hammering the ref. They want him calling it like this.
Hardy: The biggest problem with the rule being in plays the way it is, It makes you think you have time to think about these things. Stop wrap them up, get roll crab walk. Like there’s obviously no time for any of that in the moment. But what do you see when you start changing the way you tackle a certain guy? What if you’re trying to wrap a wrap up Josh Allen? What are the odds of Josh Allen’s just going to break loose of you? If you’re trying to keep your weight off of him, who’s to say a strong quarterback can’t keep his knees and elbows off the ground while you’re trying to keep your weight off and actually not go down and stand right back up and either complete a pass or run the ball. It’s stupid.
Beetle: It’s a bad rule. It’s bad. The body weight part of this is bad. You can’t tackle. You can’t land on a player you’re tackling. What are we talking about? I know it’s the quarterback and you want to protect them and you have plenty of protections in place. But that play should not be legal. That’s crazy. No. That’s that’s that’s a get off the field play for your defense. That’s that’s a killer killer. That rule should be changed that some the league needs to look into.

Another game slips through the fingertips: 11 takeaways from the Patriots' loss to the Commanders
Did that one feel familiar? It should have.
On Sunday the New England Patriots found themselves in a spot they’ve found themselves in quite a bit this season. Despite playing a sloppy game at times they were in it in the fourth quarter against the Washington Commanders, before penalties and turnovers became too much to overcome in what was eventually a 20-17 loss to the Washington Commanders. With the loss, the Patriots are now 2-7.

“A game where we had our chances. You know, had a chance there at the end, couldn’t make enough plays,” head coach Bill Belichick said of the loss after the game. “Obviously had plenty of opportunities along the way that we needed to make more out of. Just disappointing result. Just got to do a better job of making the plays when we have the opportunities to make ’em. It’s as simple as that, so that’s really about it. It’s all the way across the board, all three units.”
While the loss may have felt familiar in terms of game-script and themes, there’s still plenty that stood out in this one. Before we get to the big-picture implications of the 2-7 start this week, let’s wrap up Sunday with the takeaways from the game itself…
