Navy SEALs To Hold A Boston Harbor Swim
On June 18, the Navy SEAL Foundation is hosting their 5th annual Boston Frogman Swim fundraiser at Boston Harbor Piers Park Sailing Center. This is a 5K open water swim through the harbor.
Their press release explains that the Boston Frogman Swim is a symbolic and physically demanding event inspired by the Navy SEALs’ legacy of courage and commitment to service. Participants will gather at the Boston Harbor to dive into the waters and complete a challenging swim, emulating the tenacity and determination embodied by our nation’s elite special operations forces.
100% of the proceeds will go directly to support the mission of the Navy SEAL Foundation. They have already raised 150K prior to the event.
The Frogman Swim History
This local fundraiser started in 2019. At the first event, there were 28 swimmers. Now, in year five, participation has grown tremendously. On the 18th, 90 swimmers, 50 kayakers, and over 30 Gold Star Surviving Family members are expected to attend. This includes a 100-year-old Navy veteran named Frank Bellotti. He also happens to be a Massachusetts native. Bellotti is the former Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts.
Navy SEAL Foundation
“The Navy SEAL Foundation provides critical support for the warriors, veterans, and families of Naval Special Warfare,” they state. Charity Navigator has awarded the foundation a 4-star rating since 2009. In addition, they have received a perfect score of “100” since 2014 for our financial health, accountability, and transparency. Ninety-three cents of every dollar donated goes directly to funding their programs and future endeavors. The foundation has been in place for 20 years. Collectively they have raised over 113 million dollars.
In addition to the Navy SEAL Foundation Boston harbor swim, they will hold an upcoming 5K at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront on June 20. Golf charity tournaments are also scheduled at clubs across the country all summer.
