Bill Belichick reportedly more involved than in recent years
In the post-dynasty years in New England, Bill Belichick has taken on more responsibility in coaching and team building than in years past with a new young core. As Albert Breer discusses in a new column, Belichick is around all aspects of the team and still enjoying his time at the helm in New England.
“Belichick still loves doing it,” Breer writes. “That much is obvious. I had someone there tell me that this offseason he’s actually working more than he has in the recent past, which only speaks to the fact that, to borrow paraphrase an old Levy-ism, there really isn’t any place he’d rather be.”
Belichick’s growing role as he enters his age-70 season holds positives and negatives. His experience now being spread farther across the roster will allow the young core to gain more attention and better adjustments with more involvement from Belichick.
At the same time, the team will be more reliant on its head coach given the lack of experience across Belichick’s supporting cast due to a heavy turnover in the front office and on the coaching staff.
The tradeoff of Belichick’s greater involvement will be on early display as the 2022 season nears closer.
