Patriots open up roster spot with release of offensive tackle
The New England Patriots opened up a roster spot on Monday by releasing tackle Andrew Stueber.
The New England Patriots are opening up a roster spot as the final week of OTAs begins. On Monday, ESPN’s Mike Reiss was the first to report that the team plans on waiving offensive tackle Andrew Stueber.
Stueber was a seventh-round pick by the Patriots out of Michigan in 2022. He missed his entire rookie season after suffering a torn hamstring in the spring. Last year Stueber spent the entire season on the practice squad (he was elevated for one game late in the year but did not play).

This season Stueber was expected to compete for a reserve tackle role. Mike Onwenu, Chuks Okorafor, and rookie Caedan Wallace project as roster locks at the position. That leaves Calvin Anderson, Vederian Lowe, Tyrone Wheatley Jr., and rookie UDFA Zuri Henry to compete for any backup spot or spots.
Meanwhile, Stueber’s release opens up a roster spot for the Patriots. Their 90-man roster was previously full after drafting eight players and signing a nine-player UDFA class. That gives them the flexibility to add a player for the end of spring practices – OTAs wrap up this week then the spring concludes with minicamp next week – or heading into training camp in July.
