Patriots center David Andrews has been released from the hospital, according to Jim McBride of the Boston Globe. Andrews was treated for a blood clot in his lungs.
It’s an encouraging sign for Andrews’ short-term health that he’s out of the hospital. But long-term, he still faces a long recovery.
The Athletic’s Jeff Howe first reported Andrews’ hospitalization and added that his 2019 season is in jeopardy. Blood clots in the lungs cause a pulmonary embolism, which typically requires treatment for at least three months, according to the American Heart Association.
Even with a perfectly smooth recovery for Andrews, the Patriots are still looking at playing the majority of the 2019 season without their starting center since 2016. Fourth-year pro Ted Karras is expected to start at center while Andrews is out, marking the first opportunity in his career for extended playing time.
