Just days after firing head coach Brad Friedel, the New England Revolution are making another major change.
The team announced Monday that they have dismissed general manager Mike Burns after seven seasons on the job. Burns had worked in the Revs front office since 2005 and was a former team captain during his playing days.
“As an original Revolution player and throughout his time with the club’s front office, Michael has always been a terrific ambassador for the club,” said Revolution President Brian Bilello. “His impact on the team and organization has been felt in many ways and we are grateful for his commitment and service to the New England Revolution.”
The move comes after the Revs have failed to qualify for the playoffs in the last three seasons. The team has opened 2019 with a 3-8-2 record.
“In light of recent results and the team’s on-field direction over the last few seasons, we felt it was time to take the soccer side of the organization in a different direction. We expect to make an announcement related to leadership of the soccer organization in the coming days,” Bilello said.
The Revolution are set to host English powerhouse Chelsea FC in a charity exhibition match at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday. They return to MLS action this weekend against Montreal and are coming off a 3-1 win over San Jose on Saturday.
