It’s been another forgettable season for the Patriots at the tight end position. But rookie Devin Asiasi at least made a play in the final game of the season, catching his first career touchdown pass from Cam Newton on Sunday against the Jets.
Breaking wide open down the field, Asiasi made a nifty grab as he tracked the ball and reeled it in from a tough angle. He crossed the plane of the goal line before losing the ball and alertly falling on it. Asiasi had made his first career reception earlier in the game.

The touchdown put the Patriots up 21-14 early in the fourth quarter against the Jets. New England will have more time than usual to evaluate the roster and work on the offseason, as they will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2008.
Asiasi and Dalton Keene, both of whom were drafted in the third round in 2020, were disappointments as rookies for the Patriots. But Asiasi’s first career touchdown at least gives hope for a brighter future.
