Patriots coaching odds
The Patriots season came to a crashing halt on Sunday after winning the final game of the season 23-16 vs the Buffalo Bills. The Patriots went for the win instead of securing the number 1 pick in the NFL Draft. And just around 90 minutes after the game, we learned Jerod Mayo is out as the head coach of the New England Patriots. It was never going to be easy replacing one of the greatest coaches of all time as Mayo did with Bill Belichick. Kraft decided to pull the plug after a horrific 4-13 season. However, the head coaching job of The New England Patriots will be intriguing as they have the 4th overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, 120 million in cap space, and their franchise quarterback in Drake Maye.
Mayo not even making it to black Monday was a bit of a shock and leaves all New England wondering, who in the world is going to step in as the next head coach of the Patriots? The oddsmakers at BetOnline.ag have opened lines for the next head coach of the Patriots with Mike Vrabel and Brain Flores as the respective favorites.
Odds to be Patriots’ next Head Coach:
Mike Vrabel (-400)
Brian Flores (+400)
Ben Johnson (+600)
Kliff Kingsbury (+800)
Aaron Glenn (+1200)
Liam Coen (+1600)
Bill O’Brien (+1800)
Joe Brady (+2000)
Todd Monken (+2000)
Josh McCown (+3300)
Mike Vrabel
The former Titans head coach seems to be the overwhelming favorite to be the next Patriots Head Coach. Vrabel has plenty of connections with the Patriots as he played eight seasons with the team and won three super bowls. And in 2023, Vrabel was inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame. Vrabel would bring his own culture and stability to a Patriots organization that has really struggled in those departments since Tom Brady left. And Vrabel has reportedly had conversations already with the Jets about their head coaching vacancy to pressure the patriots to make a move for him. He seems extremely interested in coaching in Foxborough.
Ben Johnson
The current offensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions is undoubtedly among the top head coaching candidates this year. He seems to be the top offensive mastermind on the coaching market. The Patriots have already requested to speak with Johnson. It’s evident that the Patriots would want Johnson to take over and help Maye develop into a top tier franchise quarterback. But the question is whether the Patriots situation is good enough for Ben Johnson. The Patriots can try to sell him on Drake Maye, their cap space, and the 4th overall pick. That might be a better situation than other current coaching vacancies out there such as the Bears and Jaguars.
Brian Flores
The Vikings defensive coordinator also has plenty of connections to the New England Patriots. He spent time working with the Patriots under Bill Belichick before he took over as Head Coach for the Miami Dolphins But after a controversial departure from Miami Flores has excelled as a defensive coordinator with the Vikings. They are one of the best defenses in the NFL. Flores could be a great option for the long-term success of the Patriots, bringing back an elite defensive culture.
