Patriots release rookie cornerback
The New England Patriots released UDFA cornerback Kaleb Ford-Dement after Friday’s training camp practice.
As the New England Patriots wrap up their first week of training camp practices, they’re making a roster move. Following Friday’s practice, the team announced the release of rookie cornerback Kaleb Ford-Dement. Ford-Dement was not on the field with the team on Friday.
Ford-Dement, 24, was signed by the Patriots as an undrafted free agent immediately after the 2024 NFL Draft. He played his final year of college football at Texas State after stops at Washington State, Old Dominion, and JUCO Kilgore College.
Entering the pros Ford-Dement’s biggest skill seemed to be his versatility, with experience playing boundary and slot cornerback as well as safety. However, with the Patriots’ significant veteran cornerback depth he faced an uphill battle towards earning a roster spot.
Ford-Dement projects mainly as a slot cornerback as a pro. The Patriots have gotten great play from their slot corners early in camp, with Marcus Jones having a particularly impressive first few days.
After releasing Ford-Dement, the Patriots now have two open roster spots. They never filled the spot opened by the release of fellow UDFA Jontrey Hunter just before training camp.
