Patriots make series of roster moves prior to 2024 season finale
The New England Patriots made a handful of roster moves on Saturday, ahead of their final game of the season this Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.
Leading into their season finale against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, the New England Patriots are making some changes to their roster. In total, the team made nine moves on Saturday.
Those moves are highlighted by the team signing four players to the active roster from the practice squad. Tight end Jack Westover, defensive end Truman Jones, linebacker Monty Rice, and cornerback Miles Battle all were signed on Saturday. The details of their contracts were not disclosed but it’s likely they are either one-year deals (which would set the the players up to be exclusive rights free agents once the season ends), or two year deals allowing the team to get a jump start on futures contracts.
The Patriots had one open roster spot before making those moves. To open the other spots the Patriots placed center Ben Brown, wide receiver Ja’Lynn Polk, and safety Jabrill Peppers on IR. All three had previously been ruled out for Sunday’s game.
This ends the season for all three players. Mostly notably Polk, who was the Patriots’ second-round pick this past spring. Polk came up short of expectations, and finishes his rookie year with 12 catches for 87 yards and two touchdowns in 15 games.
In addition to the players they signed, the Patriots also elevated two players from the practice squad. Wide receiver Alex Erickson and tight end Mitchell Wilcox will both be active for this game.
Westover and Wilcox being added to the active roster gives the Patriots’ five available tight ends for Sunday. That could be a sign that Hunter Henry and/or Austin Hooper will be an empty scratch.
